Racebook: “Box and Box with Key” bet definition

You have the option to “box” your Exacta or Superfecta which will cost double the price but will give you a win no matter the order of the horses you picked.

Example:

$1 Superfecta Box (5-4-6-2) is a $24 bet ($1 each) on the following 24 possible outcomes:

5-4-6-2; 5-4-2-6; 5-2-4-6; 5-2-6-4; 5-6-4-2; 5-6-2-4
4-2-5-6; 4-2-6-5; 4-5-2-6; 4-5-6-2; 4-6-5-2; 4-6-2-5
2-4-5-6; 2-4-6-5; 2-5-4-6; 2-5-6-4; 2-6-4-5; 2-6-5-4
6-2-4-5; 6-2-5-4; 6-4-2-5; 6-4-5-2; 6-5-2-4; 6-5-4-2

‘Key Box’ bet includes all possible combinations of selected ‘key’ horse(s) when combined with other ‘non-key’ horses in a box bet.

Example:

A $1 Trifecta Box with Key (or Key Box) : 1/2, 3, 4. This  Box with Key wager would cost $18. It covers eighteen possible combinations, 1/2, 3, 4/2, 3, 4 (6 combinations with the key horse finishing first) 2,3,4/1/2,3,4 (6 combinations with the key horse finishing second) 2,3,4/2,3,4/1 (6 combinations with the key horse finishing third) .

The term ‘ Box with Key‘ means that you are keying a horse(s) with other selections in a box bet. Only your “key” horse is being used in all possible combinations.
